This course meets the requirements for Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) HT.306, Asphalt Level 3 training. It is designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the principles associated with asphalt concrete volumetric mix design. On the final day of the course, students will have the opportunity to take the ODOT examination for Level 3 Asphalt Concrete Technician approval.

Students Will Learn: Properties and tests applicable to the selection of asphalt binders and aggregates; Marshall and Superpave mix design methods using volumetric analysis; and Information necessary to complete the examination for ODOT Level 3 approval.

Course Prerequisites: Individuals taking this course must be ODOT approved Level 2 Asphalt Concrete Quality Control Technicians or equivalent. It is recommended that each student has a thorough understanding of the current ODOT Level 2 practices. The current Level 2 manual can be obtained on FPO’s website. Participants should bring with them a non-programmable calculator, ruler, implements for drawing graphs, and Level 2 Asphalt Concrete manual. A Level 3 Manual, Asphalt Institute MS-2 “Asphalt Mix Design Methods” Manual, and a 2016 Ohio DOT Construction and Materials Specifications book will be provided.
